Love over all
My journey into the heart of Godās love
One thing Iāve come to understand in my walk with Godāsomething I didnāt quite grasp beforeāis His love for me.
All my life, Iād only ever heard about God: a supreme being, the Maker of the universe, the King of kings, the Lord of lords.
And yes, Heās all of these thingsāand even more. Heās in a class of His own.
But I wasnāt really hearing about how God is loveāand that God loves me.
I decided to give my life to Christ because I was constantly taught that if I didnāt accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour, and confess with my mouth that He is Lord, then Iād end up in hell.
I can still remember the sermons every Sunday in my secondary school chapel.
That created a fear in my heartāone I didnāt admit.
It painted a picture of God in a certain light, and I struggled in my relationship with Him.
As much as those teachings were true, Iāve come to realise that it wasnāt until I felt, recognised, and understood the love of God that my relationship with Him truly changed.
That happened recentlyāit hasnāt even been a long time. But it has put so many things into perspective.
I realised I didnāt have to be a certain type of person for God.
I didnāt have to say certain things or act a certain way to be worthy of His love.
That hit me hard because I had always believed He loved only those who were doing big, great things for Him.
I always felt unworthy.
Why would He love me?
Iād see what many peopleāboth online and around meāwere doing for God, while I couldnāt even pray right, study my Bible consistently, or fully let go of certain sins.
And youāre telling me God loves me?
How?
It didnāt seem logical.
But itās true.
God loves me.
He really, really does.
He doesnāt have to try.
He doesnāt fall in and out of love with me.
He simply loves.
Thatās why, even before I was born, He foresaw that I would come into a world filled with sin and brokenness.
He knew I wouldnāt choose Him first.
He knew it would take me years to recognise and acknowledge Him.
And so, He came up with a brilliantāand very painfulāplan. He sent His one and only Son to die for me, because He knew the only way I could be freed from sin was through the shedding of blood.
He watched His Son come to this earth, suffer, carry my sin, and die my death.
I canāt even imagine what that felt like.
But He did itāfor me.
Romans 5:8 (NLT):
But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Thatās how great and deep Godās love for me is.
Now I donāt have to fear the wages of my sin. Because Iāve accepted Jesus, I have eternal life in Him.
Romans 6:23 (NLT):
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
No matter how much I try, I canāt fully understand why God loves me this much. I did nothing to earn it.
Heās not asking for anything in return.
Heās not asking what I bring to the table.
But as this understanding grew, so did my doubts.
What about the times it seemed like God had forgotten meāthose hospital visits, scans, surgery, and dark moments when my mental health was crumbling?
What about the days I was bullied in school?
Did God love me then?
Why did I have to go through all that if He really loved me?
But when I looked closely, I realised: God was with me in every trying, scary moment.
He kept me.
He healed me.
He sent people to check on me.
He sustained me.
Truly, nothing can separate me from the love of God.
Because before I was formed, He knew me.
He loved me.
Romans 8:35ā39 (NLT):
Can anything ever separate us from Christās love? I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from Godās love nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Friends, the Bible says that of faith, hope, and love, the greatest is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT):
Three things will last foreverāfaith, hope, and loveāand the greatest of these is love.
Thereās something about understanding Godās love
It strengthens your relationship with Him and deepens your faith.
But donāt get the wrong idea: Godās love doesnāt mean you wonāt face difficulties. Weāre told that in this world we will have trials, but we can take heart because Christ has overcome the world.
John 16:33 (NLT):
Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.
So, Iāve come with an invitation for you today:
You can only enjoy this unending, pure, and matchless love that your FatherāAbbaāhas for you when you are His child.
And you become His child when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
You must believe in your heart and confess with your mouthānot out of the fear of hell, but from the understanding that He loves you and thatās why He sent His Son to die for you.
If youāre willing to make this decision, please say after me:
Lord, thank You for loving me. Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to die for my sins. Today, I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord over my life. I accept Him as my Lord and Saviourānow and forevermore. Amen.
Congratulations if youāve made this decision!
